Stirrup Cups

Stirrup Cups
A stirrup cup is a ‘parting cup’ given by the Scottish Highlanders to guests when they are leaving and have their feet in the stirrups. In colloquial Highland Scots, by a borrowing from the Gaelic, the host may well, in inviting his guest to stay briefly for that farewell drink, call it a "dochan doruis" ("drink of the door"), generally preceded by "wee" (small) and followed by "afore ye go". For all hunting enthusiasts, these are wonderful items that are steeped in tradition.
